Welcome to Antler and Magpie!

“There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”

Past

April came to art through science. With a background in Biological Engineering and Biomedical Science, she spent years looking closely at structures, patterns, cells and the natural world. That way of seeing still shapes her work today — particularly her painting and illustration.

Melody’s creative path has developed through visual art and making, with a growing fascination for form, texture and handmade objects. Two years ago, Melody began exploring ceramics out of curiosity and enjoyment. Over time, clay became a way for her to reconnect with her Chinese heritage while reflecting on her life in Australia. Through ceramics, she began exploring identity, belonging, and the connection between different cultures.

Current

Together, April and Melody are building Antler and Magpie Gallery as a small, friendly neighborhood gallery — a place for original art, ceramics, prints, creative objects and new ideas.

April, a painter and illustrator — and a mum of three — is developing work inspired by nature, science, observation and everyday life.

Melody continues to develop her visual art practice, with a particular focus on ceramics, exploring materials, techniques and the possibilities of clay.

Alongside their own work, the gallery welcomes works by emerging artists, students and local creatives, creating a space where different stories, materials and perspectives can meet.

Future

We may no longer be at a stage of life where everything needs to happen in great leaps, but our hope is for Antler and Magpie to grow slowly, season by season.

We plan to organize the gallery around seasonal exhibitions, with each season bringing a new selection of artworks, artists and ideas.

We especially want to support emerging, young and local artists. You do not need a large collection or an established art career to approach us. Sometimes one artwork is enough.

If you are a new artist, a young artist, or simply someone making something you care about, you are welcome to show us your work. Selected pieces may be exhibited with us for a season and become part of the evolving Antler and Magpie community.

"Art is a language of everyday life - found in the things we see, make and share."
